Hot Rod's EXPRESSIONS

I’m running a bit late for my usual routine. By now I should be on the F train going to work but a fucking pipe decided to burst in my kitchen and I had to wait for the super to come and fix it. The water didn’t do too much damage but now I’m way off schedule. It’s still pretty early, only a quarter past ten but I don’t like being late. However, what I hate more than being late is starting my day without my morning coffee, so that’s why I’m about to walk into fire stone.

It’s a rather unique name for a coffee shop but the coffee is the best I’ve ever tasted so it could be called Satan for all I care. Surprisingly it’s not as busy as it usually is. I guess my lateness could be the cause of that though. There is only two other customers in the shop but they had already gotten their orders so I didn’t have to wait. Well I wouldn’t have if there was actually someone at the counter to put in my order.

I looked round the counter searching for anyway who works here but came up short. There wasn’t even a bell for me to ring to get their attention. I was about to get even more pissed about this shitty day until I heard the most angelic voice coming from a room behind the counter.

I was entranced by the amazing sounds coming from this mystery woman. With a voice like that you would expect her to be on stage somewhere, not working in the Bronx at a coffee shop. Finally the woman stepped out of the backroom and hurried over to the counter. 

“I’m sorry for the wait. I didn’t hear anyway come in. I’m Mercedes, would can I get you.” 

I hadn’t heard much of what she said to me to be quite honest. I was stunned into silence by not only her voice but how beautiful she was. She smiled at me but I could see she had a bit of a smirk on her face. I probably looked crazy just staring at her like this.

I quickly shook out of the haze I was in and ordered my latte. She made drink quickly and within a minute she was back at the counter and taking the outstretched twenty I held in my hand.

“Thanks for you business I hope to see you again.” Mercedes said as she handed me my latte.

“Wait!” I nearly yelled.

She looked startled at my sudden outburst but stayed put to listen to my request.

“what song were you singing?” I asked.

“I’m sorry?” She responded looking confused.

“Earlier when you were in the back, you were singing. What song was it?”

“Oh, uh well it’s mine. I write music.” She answered looking rather shy now.

“And you sing very well too.” I added.

“Well I have to if I ever plan on making it as an artist. But thank you.” She said, smiling at me.

“I’m sure you’ll get there. Have a nice day Mercedes.” I said and turned around to walk out of the coffee shop.

I picked up my phone to dial job as soon as I left fire stone and Sugar answered the phone almost immediately.

“Sharp Records, Sugar speaking, how may I assist you today?”

“Sugar it’s Quinn, get Santana on the line I think I just found us a new artist.”
